30 Day Shred Challenge – Day 1

Well, today began the Penny Pinchin’ Mom 30 Day Shred Challenge!  I was very nervous when I got up this morning.  I had no clue what to expect.  I was absolutely shocked when I saw how “easy” it was.  The excercises are not extremely strenuous, but I can tell that they can work!  I of course, had to do some of the beginner actions, like kneeling push-ups, but I survived! 

Rather than spending money on hand weights, my husband and I each grabbed canned goods from our pantry – and they worked great for us.  As soon as we were finished, we both mentioned that our legs and arms felt rubbery.  But despite that, we feel GREAT!  I feel more motiviated, positive and ready to take on the day.

    I’m not currently doing the 30 Day Shred, but I’ve been considering it. One of my friends was doing it earlier this spring and really loved it. I had to smile when I read that you were nervous about doing it… not knowing what to expect. My husband thinks I’m rediculous because I will watch a new work out video before I actually do it so that I can mentally prepare myself for what I’m expected to do (like they can see me making a fool of myself through the tv screen – lol). But that’s what I do to make myself feel more prepared before I start.

    I did start Jillian today at my daughter’s nap time… I have done her before but don’t stick with the 30 days so I’m glad I have a group to help me!! She kicked my butt today I have to say and I felt rubbery like after too! Looking forward to tomorrow! 🙂 Only 29 more days to go!

    Do you think the canned goods are heavy enough, especially for your husband? What did you use? I have 3 lb hand weights and while my husband has never done the shred video, he uses up to 20 lbs for similar exercises for p90x!

    I mentioned on your other post that I use a yoga mat to keep my hands from sliding while doing push-ups and other exercises in plank position. A cheap alternative if just stabilizing your hands would be the non-slip drawer liners if you have an extra piece laying around. 🙂

    Do you intend to do Level 1 for 30 days?

      For now….they will work. As we get better, we will find bottles or something heavier to lift – rather than purchase any weights. I am planning on Level 1 for about 7 days or so…and then I’ll hopefully be ready for level 2. We’ll see!

      I had to walk up the stairs to shower after I got done…that was pretty rough! LOL! But, my endorphins have kicked in and I am feeling fantastic right now. My mood is great, I feel happy and who can trade that?

    Well…I ordered it after I saw it on your fb, and as soon as it came in the mail (friday) I put it in and started it. My legs were shaky for about 20 minutes after I finished, and I was nervous what the next was going to bring…but I woke up the next day I was a little sore but ready to do it again! I love it! I have done the “beginners” exercises too, but I am looking forward to being able to do the challenging ones=) Thanks for doing this! I look forward to reading others replies.
    btw I order the dvd off amazon too, but I saw after I ordered it there was a 30day shred w/ the weights, but the one I saw didn’t qualify for free shipping, it was $10 on amazon, in case someone didn’t have the weights it might be cheaper then buy the dvd and the weights~

    I talked it over with my husband and we are going to try it together. I bought it a couple of months ago and found it hard to motivate myself (life has been crazy lately). Finding time to do it is going to be tough, but surely we can fit it in somewhere.

    I’m not doing the 30 day thingy, but I am trying to change my eating lifestyle. First, I broke down and bought one of those fancy blenders (Blendtec) from Costco. I started out making green smoothies the first week and didn’t change anything else. I lost 5 lbs! Now, I’m in my second week and I’m finding myself wanting & eating whole foods. Nothing processed. So far so good…2 more lbs! And the green smoothies are so good!!!!

    I’ve been doing the shred off and on for a few years now. It does kick your butt and it does work wonders for just being a 25 minute workout. I’m pretty fit (I run and even did a tri a few years ago) and had a tough time ever getting to level II. The second and third day are always the worst! Anyway, if you keep this up, you WILL see results. Jillian’s voice will start to annoy you pretty soon, but just do it with the sound turned down and some music pumping 🙂 Good luck!

    JUST GOT DONE! wow she really pushes you huh? I like how she shows you how to do it the right way and also shows you how NOT to do it! I was using the wii fit and ea active but they dont push you as hard as she does thats for sure! Thank you for doing this i need to lose the baby weight but also since i had two 9lbs babies and gestational diabetes with both i am at high risk for type 2 diabetes! so thank you so very much it is alot easier to stay with it if i know other people out there are right along with me fighting!

    Alright, I am the first to admit that day 1 killed me, but I made it all the way through. I am about 90lbs over weigth and have only done mild exerciese like walking or swimming for a while now. I used to be in such great shape and am a little ashamed and embaresed at how out of shape I am. I hope to be able to walk in the morning but am glad I am taking this step toward activity and getting my body in shape. I am working with weight watchers and have lost 12lbs in the last 6 weeks and am so proud. But now is the test, to get through the next few weeks staying on plan is the hardest part for me. Thanks all for the group motivation. It really helps:)
