Often times, when I post great deals from Amazon, I mention an additional discount if you order through Subscribe & Save or Aut0-Renewal.  I’ve put together a Subscribe & Save Tutorial.   Below you can find out about Subscribe & Save and Auto-Renewal and how to save more money by utilizing these services.

What is Subscribe & Save and Auto-Renewal?

They are both services set up by Amazon to send automatic shipments of items you need or to automatically renew your subscriptions at the end of the contract term.  The intent is to help you avoid running out of items you may regularly use or to miss out on your favorite magazines.

The best features about Subscribe & Save are an automatic 15% discount on your purchase plus free shipping.  Magazines purchased through Auto-Renewal are often also deeply discounted – saving you 80% and even more on your favorite titles.    The great thing is that you can use either service to place your order and then cancel at any time.

How to use Subscribe & Save

When you find an item you wish to purchase, you may see this image within the main description:

This lets you know that this item qualifies for Subscribe & Save.   To actually use this option, you will select Subscribe & Save in the shopping cart.  It looks like this:

You then will choose the shipping interval from the drop down menu. I usually pick at least 2 months out – just to buy myself extra time to remember to cancel my future shipments.  Once you select your shipping frequency, just click on the Subscribe Now button and follow the rest of the steps. You just saved 15% off of your purchase PLUS got your order shipped for free!

How to use Auto-Renewal

This works in the same general way as Subscribe & Save.  The images just look a little different.  You will notice this on your subscriptions:

Just click the link for the aut0-renewal price and click Add to Cart.  Proceed to check out as usual and you’ll pay the reduced price!  Remember that magazines count towards your $25 free shipping minimum (but always ship for free no matter what).

Canceling Subscribe & Save or Auto-Renewal

Once you receive confirmation that your order has shipped, you will want to remember to suspend or cancel your future shipments/renewals — or they’ll show up and you will be billed at the current price (whatever it may be).  It is very simple to cancel this feature.  It is imperative that you do not do this step until your order ships or you will cancel your current order.

First, log into your Amazon account.  From there, you will look in the the Orders Section for Manage My Subscribe & Save Items or Manage Magazine Subscriptions:

Once you click on this link, you will just click on the order you wish to cancel or suspend and mark it accordingly.  You will not receive any further shipments (or magazine renewal).  A

That’s pretty much how it works.  By understanding how this system works you can really use it to help you save on the things you use regularly.
