One restaurant which I love to frequent is Red Robin.  They have some of the BEST burgers around.  Not sure how they do it, but they have got it figured out!  Red Robin has offered many original menu items in the past.  If you had a favorite that has since gone missing, you might be surprised to find it returning once again!!

They recently launched a Bring My Burger back contest and allowed fans to vote on the burgers which  should find their way back to the Red Robin Gourmet burger lineup.  The first one making a come back is the 5 Alarm Burger.  This is just one in a series of customer favorites to make a return back to the restaurant.  Make sure you follow them so you can learn which ones will be gracing the menus again!

I have had Gel Pro kitchen mats in my kitchen for a couple of years now and I absolutely love them.  So, when I heard (and saw) their newest product – The Ergo Comfort Rug, I was intrigued to say the least.  I received it in the mail and placed it in my bathroom so I could give it a try for myself.

Everywhere you look it seems that someone is selling something to your kids.  I find that a lot of they try to claim that they are healthy, but the reality of it is, that they are not.  This really holds true when trying to dine out with kids.  Everyone is trying to do the right thing to ensure you have healthy options, but many (sadly) fail.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) recently released the results of “Kids’ Meals: Obesity and Poor Nutrition on the Menu”.”  They investigated the nutritional quality of kids’ meals served at the nation’s top 50 chain restaurants.  As I said above, most fail  – and that was true here — with one exception.  Subway’s FRESH FIT™ for KIDS menu was the only chain to actually meet the CSPI’s criteria!

Here are some interesting facts released by this study and the Subway Kids Menu:

  • CSPI found that fried chicken fingers, burgers, and French fries continue to dominate the kids’ meals landscape, with 97 percent of the nearly 3,500 meal possibilities not meeting CSPI’s nutrition criteria.
  • All of SUBWAY® restaurant’s eight children’s meals, which include a 4” sub, apple slices and low-fat milk or bottled water, amount to less than 430 calories, less than 35% fat, 0 % trans fat, 35% added sugars and 770 mg of sodium, and meet both the expert and industry nutrition standards (CSPI’s and the National Restaurant Association’s Kids LiveWell Nutrition Standards).
  • SUBWAY FRESH FIT FOR KIDS™ meals have been approved by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), with whom SUBWAY® restaurants has partnered to help fight childhood obesity.

What is interesting in our house is that my kids absolutely LOVE Subway.  When we are trying to figure out somewhere to go if we need a quick bite, it is usually one of the first restaurants they suggest.  This proves that my kids are not about getting a free toy.  They really know what tastes good and what they like.  The bonus of this is that they are selecting a place that serves items which are actually healthy – and that works for me!
