I keep saying it again and again – do what you need to in order to get out of debt.  I have mentioned that you can sell things you may no longer need.  I’ve even mentioned that you might want to pick up a part-time job for extra income.  The thing is, you can’t allow yourself to become so obsessed with becoming debt free that you miss out on your life.

If you are working 2 or 3 jobs, what are you missing?  Perhaps you think you are missing out on family dinners.  What about that home run in little league? Or, what about the first time she rides her bike without the training wheels? You might even miss out on storytime with your kids at night.  Is making more important than your family?

I agree that it is important to live a debt free life.  However, it is more important to actually live your life.  You can’t miss what matters just for a few extra bucks.  Otherwise, you are living an empty life rather than a debt free one.  Life goes by so quickly and we need to enjoy the moments that matter.  On your death bed, I doubt you say “I wish I had worked more to pay off that credit card.”

Just make sure that you find a balance.  Yes, work yourself out of debt, but make sure you are there for the moments that matter.  And yes, even bath time can be a special moment.

**Please, if you have recently paid off another debt, share with us!  You can report every single debt — so that we can have an accurate amount reflected!!  As a reminder, the survey is completely anonymous – there is truly no way for me to know who you are at all.  You can share your amount you have PAID OFF HERE.
