Facebook: So What is Going On?!

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see my full disclosure policy for details.

I know many of you have been having some problems with this site on Facebook and are probably wondering WHAT in the world is going on.  Simple answer – I wish I knew.  Apparently, Facebook feels that the Penny Pinchin’ Mom Facebook page is spam or is abusive in some manner.  This can happen for a couple of different reasons:

  1. Someone doesn’t like me and is incorrectly reporting my page as spam in an attempt to hurt me in some way.
  2. People signed up for the page and do not like the posts and rather than simply unliking the page, they are reporting it to Facebook as spam.
  3. People do not like the fact that some links are affiliates (clearly indicated that some posts may by clicking the “A” at the bottom of ANY post) and report the link as spam.
  4. Too many posts coming through in a single day can make Facebook feel it is spam or abusive.

So the question is, how do I go about fixing this?  I really wish I knew.  There is a  form that can be filled out when you try to share links, but that can be additional flags if too many people submit those to Facebook (so that isn’t the best course of action).  I have tried to research through the help screens – which really are not that helpful, in my opinion.

Of course, I could try to contact Facebook — if there were contact information available.  I have tried every available option at this point to get this taken care of.  As a result, I think the only thing I can do is to take this page off of the radar. No No No – I am NOT shutting down the page at all. It is just that you might find posts are delayed in posting and that there are fewer posts made to the Facebook page each day.  Just remember that there are more great posts on the site – so you will have to check them out there.

Since I don’t want anyone to miss out on any deals, you might want to sign up for daily email digests for FREE!  Just head here and enter your address.  Then, watch for a confirmation email (check spam if you do not see it) and you will get a digest at 5 pm daily.  This will recap all of the posts that were made during the day.  This may not be the best option for you, but it is what I can do right now to help you stay informed.

I hope that we can get this resolved quickly through Facebook and have the page restored to “full active duty”.  Until then, don’t think that the deals are gone – I just can’t share them as often as I use to in the past!  Thanks for your patience, understanding and amazing support!

The same thing is happening to me and I don’t know why, I only leave my link on blog hop type pages when I am following back (they have usually left a link on my FB and I do the same). Tonight is the second time this has happened to me and I don’t feel like I spam anyone at all. Last time I filled out the form that popped up and it was ok within a few days. Hopefully this time will go as smoothly but I really wish it would just stop happening!

I can tell you that when you blog hop and leave a message, many times admins of pages mark that as spam as it really isn’t a good practice. When you just go from page to page and are linking yourself, that is deemed as spam. For me, I have so many people leaving links to outside sites on my page that I have started to report repeat offenders (more than one link) as spam. So that is possible what has happened to you as well.

I am not even a blogger, but I do enter giveaways from various bloggers sites and subscribe to recipe and couponing bloggers and I have had problems with Facebook.
I did not have any problems until I started entering contests and liking several bloggers Facebook pages and sharing links to my wall. I am getting less enamored of Facebook all the time. I find it harder to navigate especially when I am trying to share or create links. I find that even Twitter is easier to use in that regard but not as nice to read. However, I found Google Reader which I really love because a blogger’s full feed can go into it and you get all the pictures and everything. So now, when I find a blog site that I really like, I check to see if they have their daily feed available through Google Reader and if so, I subscribe to it. I can set it up so it goes right onto my Google homepage or I can just go into Google Reader to see the various blogs. I also try to subscribe via email when possible and keep a personal email separate for personal friends and family so I don’t have to sift through everyone to find them.

i like the tool bar for staying on top of posts, the little most recent posts button is perfect when i wanna glance to see if anythings new w/o leaving the page that i’m on. kudos for making a perfect toolbar

I don’t think it is just you. Luckily I have not had this issue yet but I know of at least 5 other bloggers I work with that have had the same issue. Facebook has really been screwing up lately if you ask me. One day I can tag people the next day I can’t then the following day I can only tag certain pages. It is so irritating.

It makes me sad for you that you’ve had to deal with this, because I’m sure it’s hurtful and frutrating for all the work you put into your site and your posts. Don’t worry about it….love your site no matter HOW I have to get the information! 🙂

Thank you so much Susan – so sweet of you! I have a few ideas up my sleeve and hope that they help and we are back to normal very soon!

I had this problem once and usually its one of the reasons you mentioned. I sent FB not one but I believe 2 or 3 mails displaying how upset I was at how I was considered abusive or whatever. I stated my reasons why I was NOT any of the above (i.e. possible reasons for having the issue to begin with) and people request my friendship often and in no way should I be punished for being popular!! lol They actually resolved it rather quickly (maybe a month, give/take) and my page was fine. I would definitely contact them. Its true they usually don’t do well in the customer service area since you never can really “talk or correspond” with anyone, but they will hear your plea and try to resolve it. But, I guarantee that if you do nothing they will shut down your page. I hope this helps!!! I LOVE PPM!!!!!
