Five Things To Do This Weekend

This weekend is not only a time to get together with family, it is a chance to remember those service men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our country remains free.  Be sure to thank any military personnel you meet, because they reason that we get to enjoy a weekend such as this. 

If you are looking for something to do before you kick off summer with a BBQ, here are a few ideas for you.  Some of these are available nationwide, but some are here in Kansas City.  You can check with your local chamber of commerce if you are looking for something fun to do where you live as well!

This weekend, the kids will make this race car sporting an American flag.  You will need to register and can do so by heading here.

Michael’s American Girl Make It and Take It

Cost: FREE

This weekend, Michaels is having an American Girl Craft event.   Your child will be able to make a beautiful “any occasion” hand crafted card.  Head here for more details and to find a location near you.

Kansas City Hot Air Balloon Invitational
Celebration Park, 159th & Kill Creek Road, Olathe
Saturday, May 29th
6:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Cost: FREE

Head on out with the family while the skies become dotted with hot air balloons.  This event is held the same weekend every year — this will be the 30th anniversary.  Head on over here for more details.  (Thanks KC Parent!)



Adventures with Clifford the Big Red Dog
Crown Center Plaza, Kansas City
Saturday May 29th – Monday, May 31st
Open daily during normal store hours
Cost: FREE

Come visit Emily’s House, walk through Clifford’s Dog House and visit the other homes and buildings on Clifford’s block!  This event is open to the public through September 6th – so plenty of time to get out and catch this one.

The Legends Free Summer Concert Series
The Legends Shopping Center
Monday, May 31st
7:00 p.m.
Cost: FREE

Head on out to the Legends as they kick off the Summer Free Concert series.  The event starts on Memorial day and continues during the summer on Saturdays.  The first concert is being held by Saucy Jack.   You can find more details here.
