I know that many people wonder — can you REALLY save that much using coupons? They see things like $0.25/2 and think that it isn’t enough to add up. I am here to say — you CAN and WILL save!!!
I am a big one to shop for clearance items as that is a great way to save. I do the ECB Deals at CVS (see CVS 101 for info). I try to purchase items with store and manufacturers coupons on top of an item already on sale.
I will say that I don’t ALWAYS have the best coupons nor am I able to use a heap of them. For example, today, I had to go to Price Chopper and normally, between coupons and sale items, I save over $20.00 per trip. Well, I was only able to save $7.xx this week — and spent only a little over $60.00 for our weekly groceries. But that is OK! For the week we will have spent around $100.00 for all of our grocery needs.
The big thing I am noticing is that by purchasing a lot of my toiletries for “free” at CVS, I am saving a ton! I have enough toothpaste, shampoo and body wash to get my family through all of 2009 and part of 2010….and I didn’t pay a penny for any of it!!
So – want to know how much we have saved as of June 30, 2009?? As a family, we have saved over $2700 thus far!!! We are well on track to save $5,500 this year on our grocery bill.
So, now do you think couponing is worth it? That’s what I thought!!
