I had to run the store today and noticed a new sign at Price Chopper: “New Rewards. Your Choice. Food OR Fuel.” I was excited to see this and anxious to learn more! Of course, using our points to save on fuel is great (earned more than $0.25/gal discount today alone), having an option to use that towards our groceries instead was pretty appealing to me.
Now you can elect to save 5% with the all new FOOD option, or just keep the points as you have been using them – towards your fuel fill up at QuikTrip!
The way the FOOD program works is pretty simple: Every dollar you spend at Price Chopper earns points. Once you hit 1,000 points, you will earn a 5% Savings Rewards Certificate. This will be mailed to you (not automatically loaded onto your card). What is great is that this option is open to everyone! You just have to determine which way works best for you and your spending habits.
Here’s a quick analysis of how it might look for you:
If you spend $125 a week at Price Chopper, it will take 8 weeks for you to earn a 5% savings certificate. That 5% would save you $6.25 off of your next purchase (assuming you spend $125).
If you stick with the points and earn even $0.10 per week fuel savings, you still save money. Let’s say fuel is $3.40 a gallon. You can save $0.10 per gallon (up to 20 gallons). That would mean instant savings of as much as $2.00. If you did this over an 8 week period, your total fuel savings would be $16.
The main difference is that you earn fuel rewards with the purchase of select items whereas points are earned on every dollar you spend. You just have to determine if this is a good option for you or not. You can learn more and make changes to your account HERE.
So, what do you think? Will you stick with the fuel rewards or change to food?
