Update to Hy-vee General Mills Cereals Promotion

by Rebecca on September 1, 2011 · 16 comments

So, I know you are all anxious to learn how the Hy-Vee cereal deal is working.  If you aren’t sure what I am talking about, this week Hy-vee has an in-ad coupon for $4/4 General Mills Cereals and then a $4 Catalina will print at check out that is good off of your next purchase.

The good new is that the $4 Catalina is rolling, which means that you can receive it in  your first transaction, use it on your second transaction and still get another one to print!  AWESOME!!   With some new coupons released today for the first of the month it will make some of these deals even better!

Keep in mind that a Catalina is a manufacturer’s coupon so you can’t have more total coupons than you do items.  That means if you purchase 4 boxes of cereal and have 2 – $1/2 coupons, you can’t use the Catalina unless you toss in a small filler item.  Just check out the candy or back to school aisle for a cheap filler.  In that case, you would have 4 boxes of cereal and 1 eraser for 5 items and you can then use 2 – $1/2 coupons PLUS the catalina in a single transaction.

To get you started here are a couple of scenarios that can give you some pretty cheap cereal:

Transaction #1

$ 6.00 2 Trix Cereal ($3 each)
6.00 2 Lucky Charms ($3 each)
-  2.00 2 $1/1 Trix Cereal
-  1.00  $1/2 General Mills Cereal Printable or FF Printable
-  4.00  Hy-Vee in ad coupon
$ 5.00 out of pocket + get $4 Catalina — so a NET of $1 of 4 boxes of cereal or only $0.25 each!

Transaction #2

$ 5.98  2 Cheerios (original)
5.98  2 Honey Nut Cheerios
0.25  Small filler item (see note above)
-  1.10  $1.10/2 Honey Nut cheerios, Chex or Fiber one
-  1.00 $1/2 Cheerios
-  4.00 Hy-Vee in ad coupon
-  4.00 Catalina from first Transaction
$ 2.11 out of pocket for 4 boxes + get ANOTHER $4 Catalina

When all is said and done, you can pick up 8 boxes of cereal (plus an eraser or other small item) for a grand total of $7.11 out of your pocket PLUS get back $4 to spend on a future purchase.  That is a NET of $3.11 TOTAL or like paying around $0.39 for a box of cereal!!!!!  WOW!!!

This gets even better, some stores are even printing an ADDITIONAL Catalaina for $2/5 General Mills cereals (9 options) in addition to the Catalina!!  Maybe you’ll be one of the lucky ones to get this one too.

If these cereals above don’t work for you, make sure that you check out the Coupon Database for all of the coupons currently available to help you with this deal!!
