Tax Time

April 15th is just a week away.  If you have not yet filed your taxes, you better get a move on!!  There are still some sites offering free basic tax filing, so you can check them out and still file on time!

Turbo Tax

Turbo Tax offers free basic Federal preparation and E-File.  If you need to file a state a return, you will have to pay an additional fee.  What is great is that you can start for free, even if you are not sure what type of product you require.  What I really love about Turbo Tax is that when you use them the following year, all of your basic information is imported and you just need to make those minor revisions as needed.  Start your return with Turbo Tax or check out these deals on your software download.

Save 15% on H&R Block At Home Online Products

H&R Block at Home

H&R Block at Home also offers a free option for filing your taxes.  Just like Turbo Tax, you can start for free and then change to an upgraded product if it is needed.  If you find that you need to file using something other than the free products, you can save 15% off of your online filing.  Start your return at H&R Block at Home or check out these deals on your software downloads.

e-Smart Tax

Another option for at home filing is e-Smart Tax.  They are also like the other services and offer a basic return for free.  However, if you need more advanced tax forms, you can upgrade your tax return package.  Start your return at e-Smart Tax.

Here are a few tips:

  • You can place your return on extension until October 15, 2013, but you must still pay the amount you owe on time.
  • Taxes must be postmarked by midnight April 15th or they will be considered filed untimely.
  • Keep all of your documents together in an easy to find and labeled folder or file.  This will help you find the information next year if needed.
  • Make sure you consult a professional if you are unsure about deductions or other areas of your return.  Making a guess is never worth the risk.
