Looking for something fun to do with the family that is free or “on the cheap?” Well, here are a few ideas.

Saturday 10:00 a.m. – Head on over to Michael’s and make a great back to school activity by joining in The Knack. This time, the kids will all decorate a storage tin to hold those pens, pencils and special “treasures” that they will have at school.

Children’s Peace Pavilion – The premise behind these exhibits is to help teach children all about becoming a peacemaker. Most of the what they have to offer is geared towards children 12 and under. You can visit Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Saturday in the Park – Head on over to Knights of Columbus Park at Shawnee Mission Drive and Midland Drive in Shawnee, KS. The even starts at 6:30 p.m. and features Mr. Stinky Feet, Jim Cosgrove and the Hiccups. There will be free food, games, activities and just lots of fun for everyone in the family to come and have fun. Best of all — it is all FREE!

Crown Center Friday Night Flicks — Take the other kids down to Crown Center and get ready to watch Pirates of the Caribbean under the stars. It starts at 9 pm — bring your chairs and/or blankets to sit on.

Kansas City Zoo – Barbie will be at the zoo this weekend. There will be free donuts, courtesy of LaMars Donuts (while supplies last). If you are a Friend of the Zoo, you will get in for free. If not, you can take along this B1G1 Free coupon and your child will get in free with an adult purchase. Be sure to take along one coupon for each child/adult admission you want to have discounted.

You can also enter a contest to name the new Baby Zebra while you are there. Just drop $1.00 into the box with the name you like the best. The money is donated towards towards conservation.

Missouri State Fair – Your children 12 and under get in free every day of the week! Head on down to Sedalia for the day and have a great time with the rides, exhibits and games. And of course – don’t forget to enjoy some great food too!

Family Fun Day – Head on over to the Johnson County Museum for a FREE craft activity from 1- 3 pm. The exhibit is around for a while longer and is full of so much fun for the kids to escape from reality and have a great time.

If you do something fun this weekend, share it! I am always looking for fun, new things to do!

And thanks to KC Parent for some great ideas!
