Veteran’s Day is this Sunday, November 11th. To thank all military members (and their families), several restaurants and merchants are offering deals and freebies. Keep in mind that you will need to show valid proof of military service (either current or retired):
You’ll need to bring in one ID such as a U.S. Uniform Services ID card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired ID card, current Leave and Earnings statement, DD form 214, a veterans organization card, a photograph of you in uniform, or you can wear your uniform.
It is very important to note that if you take part in these free offers, that you should still tip on the original purchase amount. Just because you pay less for your meal doesn’t mean you will receive less service. That means if your total before the discount is $20 and just $10 after, and you tip 15%, you should still leave $3 for your server and not just $1.50. They work hard and tips is how they make a living. Just because you get a cheap meal doesn’t mean you should be cheap in return.
Also, make sure you call your location before you head out to ensure that they are participating as not all of them will.
