Well folks, I’ve got some bad news for anyone who shops Walgreen’s. They’ve updated their coupon policy — and not for the better. Many of the deals you use to get there will no longer work, unfortunately.
First and foremost, make sure you read the updated coupon policy as posted on their website. They have greatly expanded the general guidelines as well as made changes to how you can use them in conjunction with in-store deals. Here are some of the key points you should notice:
Coupon values will not be adjusted. Under the old policy, if the value of the coupon exceeded the price of the product, the coupon value would be adjusted down. That is no longer the case.
Old Policy: Product priced at $0.99 and your coupon is for $1.00 off. The value of the coupon will be manually adjusted down to $0.99.
New Policy: Product priced at $0.99 and your coupon is for $1.00 off. The coupon will not be accepted.
BOGO Free Sales. Under the old policy, when a sale was a BOGO Free, you could stack a BOGO coupon and end up getting both items for free. In addition, you could use a coupon towards your free product. This is no longer the case.T The new policy requires you to actually purchase at least one item, meaning, you would need to purchase 4 items, and then you could use your coupon, meaning you would pay for 2 and get 2 free. In addition, you can not use any coupon on any product which is free.
Old Policy: Laundry Soap is on sale Buy 1 Get 1 Free. You have a Buy 1 Get 1 Free coupon. You can stack the coupon with the sale and purchase 2 items for free.
New Policy: Laundry Soap is on sale Buy 1 Get 1 Free. You have a Buy 1 Get 1 Free coupon. You must purchase 4 items and 3 of them will be free – two via the store promotion and one via your coupon.
Old Policy: Laundry Soap is on sale Buy 1 Get 1 Free. You have a $1.00 off of 2 coupon. You can purchase both items and get one free and save $1.00 total off of the one for which you pay.
New Policy: Laundry Soap is on sale Buy 1 Get 1 Free. You have a $1.00 off of 2 coupon. You can not use this coupon as it requires the purchase of 2 and that means the coupon is being applied towards the purchase of an item which is free. In order to use this coupon, you must purchase 4 products — 2 will be free and you will save $1.00 total off of the purchase of the other 2 items.
Free Product Coupons. They will no longer accept Internet printed coupons for free items.
Possible Concern: While the policy says no free product coupons, it does not specify if they will consider Buy 1 Get 1 Free printable coupons as a free product coupon. My instinct tells me they will still accept those as it is not just for a free item. However, keep in mind that your store may deem a free product coupon to include even buy 1 get 1 types of coupons.
While you may not like the changes, there is not much you can really do about it. You can roll with it and adjust they way you shop, or just find a new place to go.
What do you think of the changes?
