When I started this site back in January of 2009 (wow – has it been six years already??!!), I tried to make sure that I provided all of the store deals I could find. In those first years, my site focused mainly on coupons and store discounts. That was it.
The reason for this was the heavy coupon craze! Everyone was learning about this great way to save money. Stores had amazing deals and those coupons really did a lot for you (and even my family). Putting those coupons to work for you has always made sense.
As time has progressed, coupon use has also changed. Stores have had to put more stringent policies in place. Doubles are ending. The deals are just not what they once were. I am sure many of you who have been at this for years can attest to that. While we know that is an easy way to save money, there is much more to it than just coupons.
As time has gone on, I’ve tried to include more ways to save money. Of course, this still meant the store deals, but I’ve also added in money saving tips, budgeting ideas, help in getting out of debt, online deals and more. We just never wanted to get stuck with just one way to help readers. As all of you are different, so are the ways you save money. Coupons don’t work for some of you but are perfect for others. Just like many of you shop on line and others of you have no desire to do that.
We also always watch to make sure that the content we provide is what our readers are looking for. It doesn’t make much sense for me (or the amazing staff of people who help me) to put out posts, matchups or other money saving ideas if it is not something people are interested in receiving. The idea is to help everyone we can – with the time we all have.
I’ve always made it known that I am a Mom first. That has always been the case – and will not change. My family is more important than anything else. The same holds true for the amazing women who work for me. I purposely hire moms to help them make a little income for their families, while making sure they get to be a mom first and foremost. That is just my philosophy.
Part of this is making sure that the time we spend working is smart. You know that old saying “Work Smarter – Not Harder”? I could NOT agree with that more. That has required me to take a look at the site and make a few changes.
First of all, we are not pushing out every single deal anymore. This means that when we share something it has value. It means that it is something that we feel is relevant. By doing this, we are not overwhelming people with 30 posts a day to sort through. Instead, it is less than 20 — and often around 15. We hope that this makes it easier for you to stay up to date with us and know that it is really something worth reading.
If you are on Facebook, this also may mean you may not see us a much (gosh darn Facebook). A couple of ways to make sure you don’t miss out is to either join our group — where you can sign up to get notifications each time we post — or sign up for the newsletter. The newsletter will provide you with list of all of the posts we shared during the day. This comes out at about 5 pm CST, so you can read it, get up to date, and read about the deals that actually work for you! Sign up for the FREE newsletter HERE (make sure you confirm your subscription)!
That is not the only change being made. We are also making sure to share more amazing DIY and recipes with you as well as articles to help you and your family with everything from staying safe on line to saving on cable and more! So get ready for VIDEOS, articles, recipes and more — all coming your way!!!!
The final change is probably the biggest one in the past six years. As some of you know, we have alwyas taken the time each week to go through the HyVee, Price Chopper and Hen House weekly ads and match up each and every item to any coupon that may be out there. We have watched this and as the price of food has continued to rise and the coupon value has not (and may have gone down), the deals are not as amazing as they once were. We are finding that there are really only around 10 – 12 deals each week that really seemed to matter.
Since it takes a lot of time to do those matchups (more than 1 hour – sometimes 2 each week) and they were not really “great”, I thought about it. I thought long and hard (for more than 6 months). I pay people the time to do them and they have to take time from their families to complete the work. What could I do to make sure that this worked better for all involved. The way I could do this was to share only the best deals each week.
So, starting with this week’s deals (May 6th), we will be sharing only the top ten deals at HyVee, Hen House and Price Chopper. I know that some of you may be disappointed by this, but look at it this way: When you look through the list, you will know that these are some of the top deals for the week. You don’t have to sort through every deal to see which are really great.
I know that many of you have followed me for many years because of these matchups – and I thank you! I really hope that you will continue to follow along and know that we are doing our best to make sure that we provide the best content, in the most efficient way to help all of you save money and get the most out of your life.
The store deals are also now on a SINGLE page – so you don’t have to wait for them to post on the site. You will find them here:
You can just bookmark these pages and check back each week for the updated list!
I just want to thank all of you for following the site and look forward to seeing what the future brings!!
