As part of its ongoing community efforts, Chipotle often supports like-minded local organizations, including farmers’ markets that are committed to supporting local growers and producers by setting standards for sustainable farming, including the possibleuse of organic compost and natural fertilizers free of chemicals, pesticides, hormones and antibiotic supplements. Just as Kansas City-area farmers’ markets place high importance on sustainability and harvesting quality produce, Chipotle maintains a commitment to supporting sustainable food choices by purchasing only the best ingredients possible, including locally grown produce, when available, as well as some organic options. This year alone, Chipotle plans to purchase 10 million pounds of local produce to use in restaurants. Chipotle also uses the same purchasing values when sourcing dairy and meat. All Chipotle dairy – cheese and sour cream – is from pasture-raised dairy cows raised without the use of the synthetic growth hormone rBGH, and 100 percent of the meat served in Kansas and Missouri is naturally raised.
As part of this initiative, Chipolte will give the first 250 people at 9 metro Kansas City farmers’ market locations a free $10 token which can be redeemed with any participating vendor within the farmers’ market.
