Aye aye aye!! What is it with drug stores and using Kansas City as a test market? We must be good at testing things for these stores as CVS is testing our area for the next 6 – 8 weeks.
So, what are they testing? They are running the ads from Sunday – Friday only. The only items that will remain on sale on Saturday are pop and chips. That means you’ll have to plan your shopping trip for any day other than Saturday.
The matchups on my site, will continue as always. I’ll also remind everyone that this market has different dates for the ad. We’ll see how this goes and if they either extend the testing period or if they extend it nationwide.
Thanks to several of you for the heads up about this change!

Well that stinks! Saturdays are my main shopping days. Is this already in effect this week?
Sarah says
Grrr! Stop using KC as a test market!!!
Jean says
Enough already! How come they never test market anything good around here?!?!
Jen G says
Argh, now that is just a silly way to test.

Ugggghhh!!! This really sucks. I already emailed Walgreens about how much I hate it. Guess CVS is next on the list…

Hmmm…sometimes I do wait until Saturday or make my second trip. Bye-bye ad mixing on Saturday, although that can be disastrous anyway. I hope they don’t make any other changes, I like the way it is right now!

Why in the world would they take away sale items on one of the busiest shopping days of the week. This makes no sense.
Tara says
Yuck! CVS will be hearing about this from the working moms that don’t have much time to shop during the week. I would think Saturdays would be a big day for them as far as sales. Humm. What is the logic?

I think it is in response to the tv show…Festival Foods no longer accepts IP coupons, the big chains are probably next.

Although I don’t usually shop there on Saturday, I don’t like it either! I bet all the things that I want will be out of stock anyway, as usual. I only come home with half of the stuff on my list normally.
Nicole says
wow… that is amazing.. Looks like they have tested the market and have seen that Sat. are big shopping days, and maybe they are hoping to make more $$ on those days. I can;t think this will go over well.. Our CVS has enough couponers around that they are always out of whatever the hot items are for the week… This will make it even worse.

This is how they responded to me when I questioned CVS about it on Facebook:
“We apologize for any inconvenience. Our goal is to improve the shopping experience in our stores by ensuring that advertised sale items remain in stock during the entire sales period. We also want to make the process of transitioning from one week’s sale to the next more efficient for our stores by providing a recovery period for them between sales”
Seem to me they need to do this mid week, not on a weekend. Just my opinion.
Amber says
A “recovery period between sales” is ridiculous. I’m not aware of any other stores that do this. They need to improve their processes, not take away a sale day.
If they want to ensure items are in stock, then they need to increase inventory and be prepared. It isn’t like they don’t know what items are going to be on sale in the coming weeks.
Blech.

It makes no sense much like what walgreens has done with the rewards “points” instead of register rewards. these stores are way out of touch.

I just went to my local CVS here in Central Texas and found out, we are also in the test market for the new sales dates. I was really disappointed to find this out after I had finished all my shopping and was ready to check out with all my goodies.
Debra says
We in South Texas are also in this test market 🙁
