Before you pack up your kids and drop them off at camp this summer, it is important that you know they are healthy and safe so they can fully participate. Even if a camp physical is not required by your camp, it is a good idea to go ahead and get one.
Doing so may not always be covered by your insurance, or may be expensive through your physician. You can visit your nearest CVS/Pharmacy Minute Clinic and get a sports or camp physical for your child for just $39!! That is a savings of $20 off of the regular price of $59!!
We actually visit our Minute Clinic more frequently than we do our regular doctor. For one, it is right up the street and secondly, we don’t need an appointment! I can get in and see someone much more quickly than if I called, set up an appointment, drove, waited in the waiting room (then the exam room), saw the doctor and drove back home. I appreciate how convenient it is!
When you get a physical, the nurse practitioner will review your child’s health history and immunizations. He or she will also perform a thorough physical exam and even complete any required medical forms so your child is ready for camp!
As a mom, here are a few things you can do to help your child stay safe at camp this summer:
- Pack Sunscreen – and pin a note to each pair of underwear that reminds them to put some on every morning!
- Pack a favorite stuffed animal or blanket – this will remind them of home if they start to miss you.
- Send them letters – drop one in the mail to them on the day they leave so they are sure to get mail while away.
