Design a Snowflake

Cold weather sets in and my kids get restless. They can’t be outside for long periods of time, and I don’t want them to spend all their time in front of a screen, so we have to get creative with what we allow them to do. Sometimes we make play dough fom my favorite recipe of all time! Other times we do simpler activities like this one.

A great thing we like to do in our house is to make these cute Design A Snowflake wheels. It’s an easy activity that doesn’t require a lot of supplies and doesn’t make a mess. It’s also great if you have kids across multiple age groups. These wheels can entertain my kids for a long time and once the wheels are made it doesn’t require any set-up to make them.

To make your Design a Snowflake wheels, you will need to make three different sized circles. I used a large bowl to make the biggest circle, then a smaller bowl to make the next circle inside the biggest one, and lastly a cup to make the smallest circle on the inside. Draw lines to make eight triangle compartments, similar to how you would cut a pie or a pizza.

To design a snowflake, you will need the little flat bottomed glass stones pictured above, in multiple sizes and colors. We like to get these at the dollar store because they have a wide variety of colors and sizes and they’re cheap! I showed my kids how to make the first one by giving them a basic idea on how to place the stones on the wheel, and then let them create however they wanted!

Want to make a screen time contract with your kids and help to keep them safe? Check out this post!
