I love making things with my kids when the weather gets nice outside. It allows me to spend time with them, and to make something that will keep them entertained for a while without having to hear the words, “I’m bored!” These pool noodle boats are super easy to make and can be made and enjoyed by even the youngest of little helpers.

Pool Noodle Boats

Your kids can make their own boat with a few supplies you may just have on hand!  Make one, two or an entire fleet of boats so the kids can race and have fun splashing in the pool.

They’re a lot of fun for such a simple craft, and I think my kids are going to enjoy them all summer long!

MAKING POOL NOODLE BOATS

SUPPLIES

Pool Noodle
Drinking Straw
Foam Sheet
Scissors

INSTRUCTIONS

The first thing you will need to do is cut about a 3″ length of pool noodle off for each boat you want to make. Use a ballpoint pen to poke a hole in the top of the pool noodle. This hole will be where the straw presses in for the sail.

Cut the drinking straw to about 5″-6″ long.  Then, cut a triangle out of the foam sheet to create your sail (so determine the size accordingly). Your child can decorate the sail and boats with paint or anything they would like – or you can just leave it plain.

Cut a small slice in the top and bottom corners of the sail, large enough for your straw to slide through.  Slide the straw in, starting at the bottom, and run it through both holes you made. Press the straw in the hole you made in the pool noodle. There’s no need to glue it, just press it down firmly. Now you are ready to float your Pool Noodle Boats!
