We just started this new tradition in our house last night. Patrick — our Elf on the Shelf – took up residence on our mantel yesterday afternoon. What a fun thing to keep our kids entertained until Christmas Eve. If you haven’t heard of this tradition before, it is a little elf which sits and watches your children each day. They name him themselves and each night, he magically disappears to go and report to Santa and share how your kids behaved that day. The next morning, your kids can search for him in his new “hiding” place. The only trick is that if kids touch him – they might take away his magic powers. Just so much fun!
This week, Target is offering Elf on the Shelf for $29.95 plus a $5 gift card. That makes it a net of $24.95. If you’d rather not fight the crowds, you can order it from home and even get free shipping — and still get the gift card! You can order one over at Target right now.

We got ours out for the first time a couple of weeks ago & my 4 yr old son has been so excited about him. One evening he was jokingly “going to catch him” in a bucket he had :o) He even tried to enlist his dad to help him get him down, to which his dad refused saying that he couldn’t because he wanted Santa to bring him presents! Oh the fun & memories that Gus our elf has already given us. To see the excitement & magic in our son’s eyes is so much fun! When I was out shopping on Friday I found that Target had a stuffed doll elf (sold seprately) with a cute little poem explaining how he was not the elf on the shelf that we know, he does not have magic & fly through the ice & the snow. He was simply sent to you to love & play with all day (something along those lines) I brought it home & told my son that I saw Santa when I was out shopping & he knew how much Tyler wanted to play with his elf on the shelf so he sent him this one to love & play with :o) My son was so excited that Santa had sent him an early present & that now he had his own elf that he could touch & play with. He took it to bed with him on Friday night :o)
