Tonight at 9 pm EST, TLC’s show, Extreme Couponing will air. That means lots of you are here for the first time after doing some research to learn how you can shop just like they did on the show. I want to mention that their shopping trips are truly in the extreme. Not every person feels the need to pick up 40 bottles of mustard — just because they can get it for free. The average person will pick up what they need and a few extras for their stockpile.
What I teach here is how to be wise with your money. I help you learn how to put deals together and save on the things you need. It isn’t about being greedy. Rather – it is about being smart. I have some great articles that can help you get started on how to save money.
Getting Started on Penny Pinchin’ Mom. This helps you learn about some of the feature on this site and how to help you find them.
CVS 101 or Walgreens 101. If you are wanting to learn how to shop at CVS or Walgreens and get items for free, this can help you learn the lingo and how to do just that.
Acronyms. What is this special coupon language?
Finding Coupons. This can help you learn about all of the resources available to help you get multiple copies of the coupons you will need to help you save.
How to Use Coupons. Of course, this is the most important! It isn’t just clipping some coupons that saves money, it is using them wisely – and to your advantage!
So welcome and get ready to save!!

I really think this show is going to hurt us couponers at certain stores. Like Kroger and Schnucks, I have noticed they are putting limits to how many “like” coupons you can use. And as you will see these are the same stores these people on this show are shopping at. So I really think the Corporate offices are not liking what they are seeing. I have also heard in certain parts of the U.S. that these type of stores are getting away from doubling coupons. Just my thoughts….

It does and that is part of what we will be discussing. It is not all about the good, we will talk about what we don’t like as well. I actually am NOT a fan of the show personally as I don’t think it shows us in the right light. But that is part of why we are doing this – to set the record straight.

I am so excited for Extreme Couponing tonight! I’m just beginning to use coupons and save about $10 each week and want to figure out how to do even better. Thanks for inspiring me to continue to use coupons!

I am not a fan of this show either. I think it gives people the wrong idea about couponers. I believe in buying only what I can use in my small stockpile with some items thrown in for the food pantry. I want to leave enough on the shelves for the next person.

I am not a fan as well. My 10 yr old was watching it with me and she kept saying, “I’m so glad you don’t stockpile like that!” I think some of these people are going to be on Hoarders soon! lol.

It is so sad.

I haven’t seen the show, but I will say that I have no issue with people “buying” massive amounts of things they can get for free with coupons if A) they are donating what they buy and B) they work with the store’s manager to make sure that there is enough product on the shelves for everyone else once they’ve made their purchase. This may involve a special order on the part of the store manager. I think that if someone is smart enough to work the system and has the energy and willingness to play Robin Hood (“stealing” from the rich to give to the poor), then more power to them!

I appreciate your approach to saving and teaching us about saving. Stockpiling for a month or two is totally acceptable. Clearing off store shelves and having food storage in all rooms of your house is not. Couponing should be about getting a good deal on the items you regularly use or are willing to try, and/or donating items to others in need. It’s true it is hard to find coupons for all the ingredients in wholesome, healthy family recipes, including meat and produce. But the idea is not to get free vitamin and nutrition-deprived meals, it’s to be able to save and support your family in this way. Your site and the rest of the buzz about the show, helped remind me that I should be happy and PROUD to save any percent…be it 5% or 50% OVERALL. Sure, we could all use 20 of the same coupons and buy 20 deodorants (that aren’t our favorite), toothpaste (that we’ll never donate), spagehetti (that’s made from the stripped grains), butter (that will only ‘let’ us use more than we need), and taco seasoning (that we have no meat to use with!) for pennies. But for me, I want to be a responsible couponer and mom who teaches my children the right way to save money, prepare meals, and help others in need. I don’t feel that show does any of those.

I agree with you, well said.
