Updated 6/25/18: Zaycon has suspended operations and is no longer in business.
The one thing I hear from readers all of the time is “Is there ANY way I can save on meat, poultry or produce for my family?” Well, unless you find a great sale, you are pretty much stuck paying the price on the shelf. I work hard to save on other items so that I can use those savings to help offset the cost of my meat and produce. Well, that was the case until I discovered Zaycon Foods.
I recently had the chance to sample Zaycon Foods chicken. It came in an EXTREMELY large box — and comes FRESH from the farm. When my family received our box, we simply split the larger bags into smaller ones that work for our family. That has made it so simple for us to grab one baggie of chicken breasts from the freezer. I will admit that it has been so wonderful to have this in the freezer as a “stockpile” if you will. I am all about convenience.
So, what is Zaycon Foods and how does this work? Zaycon Foods sets up events in various locations around the country. You can purchase high-qualitiy healthy food products at retail prices. You will make your purchase in bulk – which is how you save. Of course, not all events are in all areas, but you can sign up at Zaycon and they will notify you via email when they will be in your neck of the woods so that you can arrange to stop by and pick up your meat. Since this is a fresh product, they are not available in all locations at this time — you can check this map for information.
The thing I love the most about this company is that the meat is fresh. It comes direct from the farmers and ranchers. Their chicken has no added hormones, additives or ingredients — which is so important! I have been so impressed with the quality of the chicken. We’ve had several meals using it from just grilled breasts to chicken salads and it has cooked up perfectly for us each and every time.
To find out about events near you, all you need to do is go to Zaycon Foods and create an account (use the code PennyPinchinMom as your referral ID). Once your account is set up, you can click on View My Account and you will instantly find any events that are a region that is close to you.
There are actually a couple of events available in Kansas City this week. The item being offered is chicken. As a reminder, this product comes in bulk — 40 lbs at $1.59/lb + sales tax as applicable. If you are interested in making a purchase, you order MUST be placed by July 25th. Here are the locations:
Grain Valley, MO: July 27th 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm — exact location to be determind by July 23rd
Liberty, MO: July 28th 9:00 am – 10:00 am – exactly location to be determined by July 23rd
One final thing I wanted to mention about Zaycon Foods is that they warranty their food. Have you ever had someone warranty food for you before? Here is exactly what they state:
We warrant that all food products sold and delivered by Zaycon Food will be of acceptable quality, fit for consumption and free from spoilage and damage. To this end, we ask each customer to open and inspect each case of product the same day they receive the product from Zaycon Foods. If, upon close examination of the contents, the customer finds the product to be of unacceptable quality, we will arrange the return of the partial or complete order and will refund the payment accordingly.

We save on meat by eating vegetarian 2-3 times/week instead of just once. When we do have meat we really watch our portions, I try to cut larger steaks/chops/chicken into smaller sized servings so we are only tempted to eat one. As far as produce, it is something i just have to spend on because it is important nutritionally for my family. I watch competitors ads and have my local store price match. Plus our huge garden doesn’t hurt!

To save on our meat and produce purchases, I buy on sale and only buy what we need. If there is something like strawberries (that spoil fast), I put them in a Tupperware Fridgesmart, which pro-longs my investment and gives us a better chance of eating it before it spoils. For meat, I buy boneless, skinless chicken breasts in several pound bags from the frozen section and just thaw when we need them. It works out really well and saves a bundle! One other way we try to save on meat is by throwing in a couple days of “non-meat” meals.

I signed up and am thrilled to find out that they will be in Grain Valley, next Wednesday!
Can’t wait to check them out! We love grilled chicken! I save on Meats by just watching the sales, sometime Wal-Mart will mark down their organic fresh chicken and I will stock up on it. I bought a food saver and its great, meat stays fresh & don’t have to worry about freezer burn! As for produce, we usually just go to the farmers market or Aldi’s.

I save on meat by taking extra care in stocking up during great sales. Safeway just had a $5 friday deal on FosterFarms chicken (individually wrapped) in the 2.5lb boxes. So I instantly bought 3 (which was the limit). Also, places like Fred Meyer will send quartley coupons if you are on their rewards program and sometimes these include $’s off of a single produce purchase. And just last week after buying groceries from Safeway I was handed a coupon with my reciept for $3 off my next produce purchase of $10 or more. This is VERY nice! This time of year we also take advantage of the Farmers Market in Washington, which you can usually find great prices on produce from local farmers/merchants. Corn can easily be sold at 4/$100.

We watch for meat sales in our area. My husband just recently spend $70 on a full rib roast. Sounds like a lot, but he cut it himself and we got 18 ribeye steaks out of that! One steak is big enough to feed both of us, so that makes 18 meals at home for the cost of a couple dinners out!
