Clipping grocery coupons and taking advantage of sales are common ways shoppers can save money on food. But many people don’t have the time (or the desire) to clip coupons. Is it still possible to save on groceries? Yes, with the cheapest grocery apps and coupon apps on your phone!
Grocery apps are a simple way to save money on food and other things you need. However, with the number of apps available, choosing among them can be overwhelming.
How do you pick the best grocery shopping app? What are the cheapest grocery apps and do they really work? I’ve done the work for you and picked some of the top coupon, shopping list and price comparison apps.
And all of these will work whether you are shopping in store or buying groceries online.
BEST ONLINE GROCERY SHOPPING APPS
1. KEY RING
I love the Key Ring app because it keeps me organized! I use this app to keep track of store loyalty programs – without having to keep all their cards in my wallet or on my actual key ring.
Take a photo of the bar code on each store loyalty card with the Key Ring app (or type in the details). When you shop, open the app and find the loyalty card for that supermarket. The cashier will scan the code to activate your card.
You can also use the Key Ring app to create shopping lists and find sales and coupons.

2. IBOTTA
The Ibotta app is one of my favorite grocery apps. And it’s certainly one of the cheapest grocery apps because it’s free!
This one isn’t a coupon app, it’s a rebate app.
As you review the different Ibotta rebates available, you can complete various actions. The more actions you complete, the higher your Ibotta rebate. For instance, if you share the coupon on Facebook, you could earn 25 cents. Then if you watch a video, you might earn an additional 75 cents.
Before you shop, find the Ibotta offers you want to claim and add them to your account. Then head to the store (or online) and shop for grocery items as usual. There is nothing to scan at checkout. Instead, you take a photo of your receipt after the purchase, and you’ll earn the cash back within a few days.
3. CHECKOUT 51
The Checkout 51 app works the same way as Ibotta. Just select the offers you want to claim and shop as usual. Once you’ve made your purchase, take a photo of your receipt and you’ll get money back in your account.
Best of all, if you happen to find similar offers for the same products on Ibotta and Checkout 51, you can claim both! That’s what I call a “double dip” of savings with these grocery list coupon apps!
Click HERE to download Checkout 51.
4. WALMART SAVINGS CATCHER
With many stores eliminating price matching, the Walmart Savings Catcher app is gaining popularity as one of the best and cheapest grocery apps.
With this price comparison app, if a competitor offers a lower price on an item you’ve purchased, Walmart will refund the difference to your account! The payment is made via a Walmart gift card.

5. GROCERY PAL
Another coupon app that helps simplify grocery shopping is Grocery Pal. Since it’s a grocery list coupon app, you can create lists on this app, just as you do with others. But this app also compares prices. You can review the weekly grocery circulars from your local stores.
One feature I love about this app is the ability to share a shopping list! That way, if your partner or spouse is at the store, he or she can pull up the list and find what’s needed – without having to call home.
Download Grocery Pal.
6. RECEIPT HOG
The Receipt Hog app works the same way as Checkout 51 and Ibotta. You make your purchases, then take a photo of your receipt. Use the app to earn coins, then redeem them for cash with PayPal or a gift card. Some receipts will reward you with Hog Slots spins, which you can use to win extra coins. Each qualifying receipt also makes you eligible for sweepstakes prizes.
You can use this app for groceries from many stores, including Walmart, Kroger and Safeway. It also works with non-grocery stores, such as Home Depot!

7. COUPON SHERPA
This is another of my favorite apps to use to save money! The Coupon Sherpa app is a collection of all of the grocery store and restaurant coupons available.
You can redeem digital coupons at the store, without signing up for a lot of newsletters or worrying that you left a coupon at home.
When you’re shopping, just open the app and find the store you’re visiting. If there are coupons that can be used in that store, you’ll find them! Open the coupons and show them at checkout to save instantly.
It’s certainly one of the best and cheapest grocery apps!

8. SHOPKICK
The Shopkick app works with you when you shop online or at a grocery store. As you enter a store, you earn reward points – just for walking through the door! You can earn more rewards for scanning the bar codes of select products and for buying products and uploading your receipt.
The Shopkick app also includes coupons you can redeem to save more. And you can earn reward points for watching videos. Then you can redeem your reward points for free gift cards, such as to Best Buy or TJ Maxx!
9. TARGET
Another of my favorite apps is from Target. As part of the Target Circle program, you can use the Target app to find coupons for up to 50% off (and sometimes more)!
Simply scan the bar code of each product in your cart. If an in-store discount is available, the Target app will let you know! Add the savings offer to your account, then when you get to checkout, the cashier will scan the bar code.
Best of all, you can use the Target app with both manufacturers’ and Target store coupons, including the Target RedCard!
10. GROCERY IQ
This grocery app not only saves you money, but it’s a grocery list app as well! You can add frequently purchased items to the app. Then when it’s time to make your weekly shopping list, you can review your favorites and click to add them instantly! Create different lists for different grocery stores, saving you time and money when you shop.
