Homemade Apple Butter Recipe




  1. Preheat the oven to 250.
  2. Core and peel apples. Cut into bite-size pieces.
  3. Combine apples, apple cider, brown sugar, honey and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a Dutch oven over medium heat.
  4. Cook apples until soft (around 20 minutes). Stir often while cooking.
  5. Remove from the heat and add lemon juice, cinnamon, and vanilla.
  6. Puree the mixture until smooth (blender works well for this).
  7. Return the mixture to the Dutch oven and bake in the oven uncovered for 2.5 – 3 hours.
  8. Stir every 30 minutes.
  9. Cook until apples are the desired color, texture and consistency.
  10. Remove mixture from oven and let cool.
  11. Transfer into a container and keep refrigerated for up to 5 days.
