I am not sure if you have noticed but it is bug season! The mosquitoes are out and on the hunt.  In the past I have found myself drenching both myself and my kids in OFF! bug spray – but there are so many nasty chemicals in that stuff. I really hate soaking myself and especially my kids in all of those harmful chemicals everyday throughout the summer.

So when I learned that I could make my homemade bug repellent —  that WORKS without chemicals – I was thrilled!  Now, I would have something to use that would keep the mosquitoes, flies and other pesky bugs away.  But, I felt better using it no only myself, but also on my young children. I hated that I had to use DEET on them.  But – no more!!

We have been using this bug spray for quite sometime now and it works great. It definitely keeps us from being eaten alive by mosquitoes, flees and ticks. Even better we don’t stink like chemicals – this bug spray actually smells good!

DIY BUG REPELLENT DIRECTIONS

SUPPLIES

4 oz Witch Hazel
4 oz Water
8 oz spray bottle (check the travel section at your local store)
40-50 drops of essential oils (Mint, Lavender, Tea Tree, Geranium, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Clove, Basil, Thyme, Eucalyptus)

DIRECTIONS

Add water and witch hazel to the spray bottle.  Select 2 – 4 of the oils listed above.  It is recommended to always include Tee Tree, Cloves and Geranium as these produce the best results.  The other oil helps improve the smell, without attracting insects.

For best results, apply every 2 – 3 hours.
