There is nothing more fun than getting together with your family and friends to celebrate July 4th. It’s when we get to watch fireworks and eat lots of delicious food! July 4th is also a fun time of the year to get creative and make something fun, like these bottle rocket treats.
Last summer, I was planning a huge July 4th bash. Everyone attending was going to bring a side dish, chips or dessert to share. We provided the hamburgers and hot dogs, but I wanted to something for the kids. I took to Pinterest and found some fun ideas and decided to give them a try.
Unfortunately, many were a bust. However, I was able to use an idea from She Knows as inspiration to create candy bottle rocket treats for the kids attending our party.
Other fun July 4th party ideas you will want to try:
JULY 4TH CANDY BOTTLE ROCKETS
SUPPLIES
Straws (I opted for fun striped paper straws)
Red, White, and Blue Life Saver Candies (Can use gummies or traditional)
Hershey Kisses
Airheads Candy
Hotglue gun and glue sticksWay to display them (we used foam core in the bottom of a bucket)
DIRECTIONS
The first thing you need to do is put a “stopper” on the straw. Determine how many candies you want and then run a ring of glue around the straw. That way, as you add the candies onto the straw, they will not slide down further than you want.
Stack assorted colors of lifesavers onto the staw (some of them may slide on tightly, so do not be too forceful or you will break them).
Next, take a little of the airhead and press it onto the bottom of the Hershey’s Kiss. Then, place the kiss on top of the lifesaver stack.
Repeat this process to make as many rockets as you need. Once you are done, you will want to put them in vase or jar and set them on your table. I found a bucket at my Dollar Store and picked up a green floral ring from Hobby Lobby to use for mine
I pressed each of the bottle rockets into the foam core so that I could have them displayed like I wanted (and they would not all fall over to the sides of my bucket.
Then, I slid the rin into the bucket and added shredded paper to finish the look. It was the perfect centerpiece for our dessert table and the kids went crazy for them! It was a simple way to give them a sweet treat that was not messy.
One thing that the original creator did was fill the straws with Pop Rocks for more sweetness. If you decide to do that, use a little of your airhead to close the end before filling them. We opted not to do that because there is enough sweet in this treat already.
There you go! A fun and easy way to add some color to your July 4th table and give the kids something fun to eat!
