As you have probably already heard, KMart was the latest company to experience a security breach. On October 9th, they learned that their store department data system was breached and immediately began an investigation. They learned that their payment data systems were infected with a new form of malware, which resulted in debit and credit card numbers being compromised.
What they have determined is that no personal information was leaked with this breach. No debit PIN numbers, social security or other personal information was leaked. They also looked to see if their online customer’s information was vulnerable as well, and it appears that it was not affected in any way. They have now fixed the breach to so that your information is now secure.
As a result, they want to protect all customers who shopped in their stores anytime in September, through October 9th, 2014. They are offering all of these customers free credit monitoring protection from Protect My ID.
