Patriotic Fruit Flag

During the summer months, there are plenty of opportunities to get creative with foods, to make it more festive.  Some of my favorites are the red, white and blue ideas.

The problem is that I don’t have a lot of time to always be super creative.  I often don’t want to make a cake or fancy dessert.  For me, simple is best.  That is why this patriotic fruit flag is one of my go to ideas!!

The best thing about this is that it incorporates several different fruits, so there is something for everyone.  Even better is that this is a healthy option amongst all of the sweet platters of food.  However, the thing that is best about this fruit flag is that there is zero cooking at all!

INGREDIENTS:

1 pint blueberries
1 bag of cherries
1 pint strawberries
1 pint raspberries
1 bag of white chocolate covered pretzels

Wash all your fruit, and then set it aside. Use a square bowl to act as the blue portion of your Patriotic Fruit Flag. I found my square, white bowl at Walmart for a couple of dollars. It’s the perfect size to hold an entire pint of blueberries.

Start with a red fruit at top (I used cherries first), and make a stripe. Below it make a stripe of pretzels. Continue until you run out of room, but be sure to end with a red fruit so you keep the integrity of the flag colors. You will have extra red fruit and pretzels, so as the tray starts to empty, just refill it as needed.

Cover the tray with saran wrap and place it in the fridge until you’re ready to serve. Since the pretzels are covered in white chocolate, you may want to make sure you don’t serve the tray in direct sunlight, if you’re serving outside. Your pretzels will melt if you do that, and will make a sticky mess! That’s all there is to it to make a Patriotic Fruit Flag! You don’t have to spend a ton of money and a ton of time to make a festive dish!
