July 4th has always been a special holiday for our family. As kids, we would save our allowance to buy fireworks. We would visit the vendor and spend hours looking and deciding what to buy. After all, it was our money and we wanted to get the best fireworks we could!
After that, we would head out to my grandma’s house in the country. We would spend the day together eating, drinking, laughing and playing. The day would be capped off with an incredible fireworks display.
My grandma is a no nonsense kind of lady. She’s all about the food and fun, of course. However, she was not going to make treats which would be attacked by bugs! Each year, she would make up these cute mason jars with fun lids, and would fill them with treats for the day.
The jars had our names on the outside and were filled with treats. Once we ate the goodies inside (which didn’t take long) it would also be our drinking glass for the day!
This year I am continuing this family tradition.
I found patriotic wrapped candies at my local store (you can use any treat you want). While I was able to find cute lids at Dollar General, you can get creative. Decorate the inside ring with markers, scrapbook paper, stickers, etc. Whatever you want to use to make it fit your occasion!
