My kids love to play games (especially my 5 year old). So, when Learning Resources contacted me about their products, I was immediately intrigued. You see, they sell games and toys which are educational!! Yep – your kids think you are just playing a game with them, when little do they know, they are actually learning!!!
We tried out one of their newest products – 100 Ant Picnic Math Activity Set. This game comes with a picnic board and 100 yellow and blue ants. What I think I loved about this game is that there is no “set way” to play it. You can actually customize it for any of your kids! Having 3 kids ages 5 – 9, this was great because it meant I could have one game to play with each of them, while still working on math skills for their own age group.
This is my five year old. She is learning her numbers and how to count to 100 in preschool. For her, we play 2 different versions of this game. Her favorite is when we cover all of the numbers with the ants (as she is doing above). Then, I say a number and she has to figure out where it is at. She is learning how to count by 10s and figure out in which row she can find the number 56, for example. We also play a game where the board is blank and then I say a number and she has to cover it up with an ant. She has fun playing this one as well.
When it comes to my 6 (nearly 7) year old son, we are working on basic addition and subtraction. I give him basic problems, such as 5 – 2 and he has to place the ant on the number 3. It helps him to have to actually run the problem in his mind, rather than seeing it on paper, which is helping to improve his math skills in school.
I also have a nine year old. At first, she thought this game was “a baby game”, so she was surprised when I was able to play this one with her as well. She has been working on mastering both multiplication and division tables in school. So, with her, we run those problems together and she places the ant on the correct answer. She actually has fun too!
This is just one of the many products sold by Learning Resources. As a parent, I truly believe in spending money if it means it will benefit my children, so I would have actually paid for this game for my children. There are games and products for kids of all ages, all of which are created to help your children learn all while having fun!
If you haven’t ever tried Learning Resources, I highly recommend them – you will not be disappointed in their products (and neither will your kids)!!
