I know many of you have found many great deals online at Living Social. There was just a release that came out which advised that their website was recently hacked. As a result, more than 50 million accounts were accessed, which means your personal information could be at stake. The were able to access only names, addresses date of birth and some encrypted passwords. The good news is that they were not able to access any credit card data.
If your account was affected, you should receive an email soon about this. However, it might not be a bad idea to just log in and change your password right now. Even if you were not affected, it is always good to occasionally update your passwords on all accounts to keep them safe. When doing so, make sure you password is a good choice. Some you should avoid include:
Your date of birth
Your child’s name
One thing you might try is to think of a phrase and use the first letters to come up with a phrase. For example, you might think:
I wish I were in Bermuda right now on 4/26/13
Your password could be IwIwiBrno. You could even add 426 to the end of it. Anything you can do to come up a password which is more secure will help to keep your personal information safe when setting up online accounts.
