I partnered with NerdWallet to share this information. All opinions are my own and were not influenced by any parties.
We live in an era with information overload. Between social media, apps and email, information is being constantly thrusted towards us. The problem is that this may not really be what we are needing.
To get answers to our questions, we often turn to forums, ask friends on social media accounts or turn to the one thing everyone does. We “Google It.”
While you can find some great information to help you answer your questions, it is not the right source to use. For instance, if you are sick, you would never use Google or these other resources to get an accurate diagnosis, would you?
Why then, are you using these same methods to get answers your financial questions?
GETTING THE ANSWERS YOU NEED
The sad truth is that most Americans don’t really know who to trust when it comes to getting financial help. There are just so many resources available – who do you trust? And, if you do find someone, will they really give you the answers you are looking for?
One way to do just that is through NerdWallet.
You may have recently seen advertisements where they help you determine the right credit card for your needs. But, the truth is that they do more than that.
You can ask one of their experts any financial question you want. Literally anything. One of their experts will speak with you to help answer them in the best way possible. You’ll end your conversation with them feeling like you’ve finally got a resolution and know what you need to do next.
HOW IT WORKS
First of all, you need to download the NerdWallet app (which you can download for free in iTunes). Once you open it up, you will need to create your account. They will ask you for your first and last name. Once you enter that, it will ask you what you need help with? To make it simple, they even include some of the most common topics people ask them about. Just select the one you want.
Once you select a category, they even add in drop downs beneath that, with some of the most common questions people ask. For example, if you select Investing, they include questions such as:
- “How should I get started with investing my money?”
- “Should I use a robo advisor?”
- “How much money should I have in stocks, bonds, cash?”
Just select the question which is closest to what you need help with and then hit the next button. From here, you’ll finalize setting up your account by answering just a few more questions. Once your account is created, you are ready to go!
PUTTING THE APP TO WORK FOR YOU
Once your account is created, you are ready to get your questions answered! Ask them anything you want. It could be as simple as how do I get started to get out of debt to what type of retirement account is best for me? There is not right or wrong answer.
What I love is how the NerdWallet app uses a format that nearly everyone is comfortable with — texting. You simply text your question to them and they will respond to you. You will be asked several different questions as they really want to fully understand your exact situation and provide you with right guidance and advice.
If you happen to text before their regular hours (9am – 5pm PT, Monday through Friday), they will respond once they are in the office. You can keep the conversation going for as long as you need – until you feel comfortable with the information you are provided.
AN HONEST REVIEW
I will admit that I was a bit skeptical when I first learned about the NerdWallet app. I was not sure that it would really work for everyone and that they would be able to help. However, when I tested it myself, I was impressed!
I tried lots of different questions about the type of credit card I might need to how to find the right way to save for retirement and even investment questions. Every time they were able to help me.
Saying that this app works is really a bit of an understatement. The app not only works, but to me, it also makes sense. It is the solution to any money questions anyone may have.
Your Uncle Earl might have some good advice for you, but it is also good to ask someone who may not have changed your diapers and taught you how to use a spoon.
In a nutshell, this is an app unlike anything I’ve seen before and I am not sure anyone else will be able to replicate it any time soon.
When it comes to trying something new, everyone usually has a lot of questions. Here are the answers to some of those which are most commonly asked.
Is it safe? All information submitted is 256-bit encrypted and securely stored. This ensures any personal information you share with them is protected at all times.
Will they sell my information? Nope! Your information is only given to the advisors so they can help you. It will never be sold t0 third parties.
Is this really free? The app is free to download and there is no charge to get the answers to your questions.
If the app download is free, how are they making money? They make money in other ways through their site and partners. This allows them to offer at not cost to anyone who wants to use it. Learn more about how NerdWallet makes money.
Won’t they get my phone number when they text me? The texting is done within the app itself and doesn’t go through your regular text. It appears in texting format within the app, as that makes the communication simple and easy to follow.
My readers all follow me for the advice and tips I provide. However, I don’t know everything there is to know about money. I don’t claim to, nor do I want to.
We all have the areas in our lives where we are experts. You should continue to focus your efforts on the areas you know best, but use other experts in the other areas of your life. Like I said before, you’d go to a doctor to get answers to your healthy related questions. Why would would you not rely upon an expert for your financial questions as well?
Check out the Nerd Wallet app. It might not change your life, but it can change your financial well being.
