If you’ve been shopping at Walmart this month, you may have noticed that there have been some changes made to the coupon policy. While the version on-line has not actually been affected at all, the manner in which your coupons are accepted and scanned has been slightly modified. Here are some things you will need to know about coupon redemption at Walmart.
Summary of change to internal coupon policy:
- All Walmart Register systems have been updated so that the coupons with the new GS1 Bar codes will scan.
- All coupons must be scanned on the flatbed scanners. Cashiers have been instructed to no longer use handheld scanners to scan any coupons.
- If the coupon does not scan, it can not be manually entered (this is actually not a change).
- If your coupon will not scan, it will be returned to you. This includes any type of coupon whether a printable or insert coupon.
So, why did they make the change? Simple – to cut down on fraud!! Between people trying to pass of fake coupons or even trying to use coupon bar decoding, Walmart has excessive losses every month. This new system help ensure that everyone is treated the same way and to cut down on the loss for the company.
Thanks, I Heart the Mart!
